Information
Chiang Saen or Hiranakhorn Ngernyang was a city in the Lanna Kingdom, which had a well-developed socio-political and religious society. In 1804, King Rama I authorized Krom Luang Thepharirak and Phraya Yomarat to attack the city and take its residents to settle in Chiang Mai, Nan, Lampang, Vientiane, Ratchaburi and Saraburi. Wherever they were, Chiang Saen residents took with them their unique form of traditional textile. Dressing is a cultural heritage reflecting the wisdom of local people, which is a foundation of life and has a social impact in terms of politics and economics. Lanna people have their own dress codes. With an awareness of changing dress culture as well as a number of dresses from other ethnic groups that claimed to be Lanna style, 19 tertiary institutions in the north organized a seminar on northern dressing codes so that the public could have correct understanding about northern clothing and decorations in order to apply them appropriately and notices what should not be done in the Lanna dress, for example, using a headdress (If it is not a Thai Lue ,Tai Khin, Tai Yai style),having the flowers into the head, use a long tail cloth to wrap the shoulder, and/or across and belt it .(This is for gentlemen only.) The vertical patterned zin ( sarong)is Laotian style, not Lanna style Therefore it should not be connected to the Then Chok zin ( sarong) , Tai Yuan. Long tail cloth to wrap the shoulder was applied from zin and Pha Tung , Phra That Temple , Pha Nguo ,Chiang Saen District ,Chiang Rai province
The temple, headed by Ven. Phaisan Phathanaphirat, the abbot, and his followers, realized the importance of this issue and promoted the weaving of Chiang Saen designs to preserve this folk art. In addition, the activity also generates extra income for farmers and provides an opportunity for young generations to pass on this unique cultural attraction. The museum was founded on March 29, 1996 in an attempt to preserve the ancient textiles, to promote the weaving of the textiles for income generation and to promote art and cultural studies as well as tourism.
