Information
An important mission of Huachiew Chalermprakiet University is to preserve Art and Culture by establishing the Thai-Chinese Relationship Museum within its Chalermprakiet building, to commemorate a good understanding of both Thai and Chinese cultures, living together with pleasant and peace under the reign of the great king of Thailand. The greatest delight occasion was when H.M. the King graciously came to preside over the official inaugurate ceremony of the University on 24 March 1994. His majesty also visited the Thai-Chinese Relationship museum on that day, which became the foundation day of Huachiew Chalermprakiet Museum on the 24th of March.
There are 2 sections of exhibitions in the museum, which are;
Section 1: Photograph Exhibitions consists of the followings,
- The 100th anniversary exhibition, “A Merit Decade, 100 Years of Poh Teck Tung Foundation” in history of one of the largest merit foundation in Thailand, which is the origin of Huachiew Chalermprakiet University.
- The 30th anniversary of Thai-Chinese Relationship exhibition, present the diplomatic and trade relations, and cultural exchange between both nations; including the mutual agreements and declarations between Thailand-China in the 21st Century.
- Exhibition of H.R.H princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s journey along the road to China which displays story of H.R.H princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s visits to China since the year 1981–2006.
- Exhibition of Important events of Chinese people in Thailand since Sukhothai – Rattanakosin period, and a unique identity of Siam Chinese’s language and culture.
- Photograph Exhibition of Huachiew Chalermprakiet University foundation day’s activities on 24 March 1994. The greatest pleasant opportunity for all Huachiew Chalermprakiet University students, staff and personnel to witness H.M. the King’s glorious on that important day. -
- Exhibition of the 60th anniversary celebrations of King Bhumibol Adulyadej's accession to the throne. The exhibition displays impressive photographs of the great king of Thailand, as a candle of hope and the loyalty of all Thai people.
Section2 : Hall of Fame
- Hall of Dr. Uthane Techapaibul’s Biography Exhibition, the president of Poh Teck Tung Foundation who devoted his life making lots of merit and sacrifice, particularly, public charity missions. He also supported in establishing Huachiew Chalermprakiet University, hoping that giving knowledge and doing good to people will enable them help themselves and society, as the saying that “Growing a tree take 10 years, growing a man take a hundred years” means teaching a man to be a good man need lots of time and patience.
- Exhibition of Huachiew Chalermprakiet University Founder’s Monument. With a strong motivation of Poh Teck Tung Foundation and donators, who wish to see the improvement of national education, they co-donated money for building the university and granting scholarships to students.
Apart from museum, the Cultural Center also hosts a human puppet performing art called “Hun Khon”, which originated from the ancient royal puppets, marionette, puppet theater and puppetry shows from different regions of Thailand, i.e. shadow dance, pantomime, drama play and Thai cultural dance combined together and implemented to be stories with rhythmic movement of performers. Bringing some parts of Thai literatures along with Thai social and lifestyle create a story to be played by Hun Khon puppetry. The puppeteer presents the comparison story of human and puppet or puppet parody pattern. By use a skillful human puppet technique, associated with the dress of the body, matching with the story sequence and current generation, make Hun Khon an interesting contemporary performance. In addition, Hun Khon puppetry is a way to conserve the art that almost be forgotten and to modernize the royal puppet and many primitive puppet plays, only transform from puppet to human.
In the year 2000, “Hun Khon” was very famous in the society; generate more acceptances to this new type of show. At present, Huachiew Chalermprakiet Cultural Center promotes “Hun Khon” performance art to both in Thailand and many abroad countries, in order to preserve and inherit the performance art that almost to be forgotten.
