Information
Banglaung Market 122, also known as “Ban Kao Lao Teng Mai” (Old House with Upper Wooden Floor) is an old market, over 100 years old. It was built in King Rama the V’s reign, around the year 1903, on the bank of Tha Chin River. The market still preserves the traditional style of markets: several adjoining wooden row houses on both sides of the road, which are shops selling handicrafts. On the river bank, there is a cruise service for tourists to see the way of life of Thai-Chinese people living on both sides of the river. You can also pay respect to A-ma Shrine and Tubtim Goddess Shrine. A museum called “Ban Kao Lao Reung” (Old House Telling Stories) is situated in one of the row houses. It holds collections of items that the owner have accumulated since he was young, such as toys, radios, clothes, old photographs, antique lamps, antique popcorn stalls etc. Walking into the market, the museum is in the eighth alley. Inside is also a souvenir shop.
