Information
Kamthieng House Museum is located within the Siam Society. It is a traditional Thai Lanna House, also known as Ruen Galare. Mrs. Kimhor Nimmanhaemin, who was the owner of the house, saw the importance and value of Lanna Thai art which seemed to be lost over time. She then offered this old house to the Siam Society. It was later turned into an ethnographic museum in the area of the Siam Society in Soi Asoke, Bangkok. The name “Kamthieng” was to commemorate Mrs. Kimhor’s mother, Mrs. Kamthieng Anusarnsunthorn, who was born in this house. The museum exhibits the Lanna way of life. The space under the house displays tools used to make a living, agricultural tools, pedestal rice offering, sacrificial offering for ancestors, wood carvings, fabric talisman, ancient gold jewelry and kitchenware etc.
