Information
Phra Borommathat Sawi museum displays Phra Borommathat Sawi whose architectural style emulates that of Phra Chedi Nakhon Si Thammarat. It is presumed to have been built in the Ayutthaya period. The last restoration was in 1996. This chedi is bell-shaped, above the base is poles decorated with lotus-shaped stucco, 7-tiered circular disks, topped with Plee Yod (a structure shaped like a banana blossom) and a dew-shaped peak. Stupa or chedi has an architectural purpose as to house the bones or relics of the Lord Buddha. It originated from being burial mounds in India and later became a symbol of the Lord Buddha in Buddhism. Each region where Buddhism takes hold has their own different styles of building chedi. The single-floor museum building displays ancient Buddha images unearthed from Phra Borommathat Sawi’s compound.
