Established with the policy of Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to serve as an ecotourist attraction and endangered species conservation centre, Khon Kaen Zoo aims to revive the ecology according to the forest and community concept determined by the agreement signed on 27 April 2009 between 4 organisations, including Zoological Park Organization Under the Royal Patronage of His Majesty the King, The Royal Forest Department, Department of National Park, Wildlife and Plant Conservation and Khon Kaen Province
Situated 50 kilometres away from Khon Kaen town, Khon Kaen Zoo has 3,338 rais of spaces with landscaped park for wildlife that serves as a natural classroom that instills a sense of wildlife and plant conservation among young people. Animal sanctuary section features deer, Albino barking deer, camel, tiger, orangutan, white tiger, lion and many more. There are another natural wonders, such as a deer park, the “Sky Walk”, the top views of African animals, rieng nueng cliff and a meadow. Visitors can also enjoy the freshness of fogs by staying at log cabin accommodation. There are also recreational building and camping site. Khon Kaen Zoo expects to be a wildlife conservation and research centre that successfully revives the ecosystem of forest and wildlife. The harmony of forest and community theory, which is part of Sufficiency Economy Philosophy, has been put into practice for the unity of human and forest. This way, the achievement of Khon Kaen Zoo will help to connect international tourism with Vientiane and Luang Prabang in Lao PDR and thus generate income into Thailand, as well as Khon Kaen Zoo will become well known as a core landmark of the northeastern.

Zoo: 8 am – 6 pm daily. Water Park: 10 am – 6 pm
Admission fee
(The fees include admission into the Water Park, but exclude tram ride and swimsuit rental)
• Foreigner: Adult 150 baht, Child 70 baht
• Free for children under 120 cm in height, elderly from 60 years old, disabled person and monks
• Students and government employees (in uniform) 50 baht
• Parking fees for coach (6-wheel or larger) 60 baht, private car 50 baht, motorcycle 10 baht
Getting There
From Khon Kaen, Use Mitrapap Road. Pass Nam Phong District and head to Khao Suan Kwang District. Total distance is approximately 50 kilometres. Turn right at the traffic light intersection. Follow signposts to the zoo for 7 more kilometres. Visitors will arrive at the Ticket Booth and animal sanctuary first. Drive further uphill for the Water Park, which is on the right. The Sky Walk for animal observation is on the left.
