The Sixth Cycle Birthday Anniversary Celebration Aquarium (Kung Krabaen Bay Aquarium : KKB Aquarium)
In 1999, His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej, the King Rama IX of Chakri dynasty turned 72 golden years old. Department of Fisheries and the Royal Development Projects Boards celebrated the 72nd Birthday Anniversary of H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand by creating marine aquarium named the Sixth Cycle Birthday Anniversay Celebration Aquarium (KKB Aquarium), located at Laem Sadet beach, was founded and created due to the Sixth Cycle Birthday Anniversary Celebration. The first phase was formally opened on July 5th, 2002 in which Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn graciously presided over its opening ceremony. The second phase was formally opened on November 1st, 2007. A total of 36 aquariums were built during the 1st phase consisting of 20 tanks with 900 liters and 16 tanks with 1,000 liters. During the 2nd phase they built 17 more aquariums, in which 15 tanks contained 2,000 liters, 1 tank which contained 3,000 liters and incredibly large tank contained 200,000 liters. Of all the fish were collected for the aquarium, 80% were collected from the Eastern part of Thailand. Within the aquarium fish are divided into 4 groups, commercial fish, ornamental fish, coral reef fish and exotic fish.
