Information
Maha Viravong National Museum was built in 1954 to exhibit and publicize the national cultural heritage which is advantageous to education. Later, the Fine Arts Department declared this museum as a national museum and named it the “Maha Viravong National Museum” to honor Somdej Phra Maha Viravong. The permanent exhibition is about art, history and archaeology in Thailand, featuring displays of antiquities, artifacts from prehistoric to Rattanakosin periods. Most items were donated by Somdej Phra Maha Viravong (Oun Tisso). Other antiquities were unearthed from archaeological sites and historical monuments found in Nakhon Ratchasima. The exhibits are divided according to the time period the objects were found in Nakhon Ratchasima, namely, prehistoric, Dvaravati, Lopburi, Ayutthaya and Rattanakosin periods.

Getting There
With private car: From Bangkok, take Highway number 1 (Phahonyothin) to Saraburi. Then turn right and take Highway number 2 (Mittraphap) to Nakhon Ratchasima. Then take Highway number 224, turn right to Thao Suranaree Monument Intersection. Drive to Chumphon Road for 700 m. Then turn right to Mahatthai Road and turn left to Rajadamnern Road. The destination is on the right.
