At the Pier Market – Tha Sadet Pier, a community’s Learning center for Loei province is one of the important resource of learning in Northeast. With full of rich history and culture from the olden days, as the transported pier that link people from both sides of Mekong river together, reflects the strong relationship between Thai and Laos, prior to becoming to be a community’s Learning center in present days.
The former name of Tha Sadet Pier was “Daan pier” (Customs pier) since it was the location of immigration and customs posts. Until the year 1968, His majesty the King of Thailand and the last king of Laos had pay a visit to this pier and made the inauguration ceremony to first release the electricity from Ubonrat Dam to Laos, the local people then called the pier, “Tha sadet” or “Sadet pier” since then.
At present, the pier building has been converted and refurbished as a learning center of the community. Within its building space for exhibits the historical story and cultural attractions, such as Patstrapornthai exhibitions, The Thai costumes exhibition, the photo exhibition of the Royal journey to Nong Khai city, the old photo telling story exhibition
In addition, the surrounding area adjacent to the Mekong River, has been decorated as a retro style, the exhibition of Thailand Postal, and a small exhibition booth of the Telephone Organization of Thailand.

Getting There
By car from Bangkok, take Highway no.1 (Phaholyothin) via Saraburi - Nakhon Ratchasima – Khonkaen – Udonthani until Nong Khai province.
By bus, there are air-conditioned Bangkok- Nong Khai buses leave from Northern Transport station (Mho-Chit 2) everydays, many rounds per day. Estimate duration is 10 hrs.
By train, the train leave Bangkok Railway station (Hua Lamphong) to Nong Khai, with both rapid and express train. Estimate duration is 12 hrs.
