Information
The ancient city of Mueang Lakorn was once called Laplae (hidden) City. The old city ruins were discovered in a 3,000-rai area. The name "Dong Lakorn" was originally "Dong Nakorn", meaning the city among the forest. However, legend has it that the villagers often heard Mahori music as if a Lakorn (play) was being performed, hence the so-called name Dong Lakorn. Inside the city were ditches and earthen dikes as the city walls. The city was surrounded by the inner and outter oval-shaped moats. Its east side was called Nong Krapor where the city entrance was located as well as the ponds in the four directions. There are also various archaelogical finds such as potsherds, glass beads, stone beads, terracotta cowries, a gold-filled Buddha head, etc., all on display in the area of Mueang Dong Lakorn.
