The Institute of Thai Traditional Medicine was formerly a unit under Ministry of Public Health. Later in 1999, by the Protection and Promotion of Traditional Thai Medicinal Intelligence Act, B.E. 2542 assigned the Thai Traditional Medicine as a unit under Office of the Permanent Secretary Ministry of Public Health, responsible for the conservation, restoration and development of Thai traditional medicine knowledge, for the Thai people can rely on their own health care with the applied wisdom. According to the concept, the museum and training center for Thai Traditional Medicine has been established. The exhibition in Thai architectural buildings is divided into 7 rooms.
1. “Prapaisat Waitoonprapa”, showcasing the relationship between Buddhist beliefs and Thai traditional medicine which is called “Buddhism medicine”.
2. Thai traditional great teacher hall, exhibiting the medicine teacher (guru) and guru worship ceremony according to Thai belief.
3. The evolution of Thai Traditional Medicine - exhibits Thai traditional medicine from past to present.
4. The Thai folk wisdom room, showing Thai folk wisdom from 4 regions, the use of herbs to treat disease. Universe and life relationship, Four elements and individual body element, and Thai folk Medicine.
5. Thai massage room, providing the history of Thai massaging and massage equipment.
6. Thai food room, exhibiting eating culture according to seasons and element of Thai people in 4 regions according to their lifestyles and their health benefits.
7. Medicine room. This room shows 4 principles of compounding medicine, medicaments, and various kinds of Thai herbs.
