Chulalongkorn University has assigned the Department of Photographic Science and Printing Technology to establish the Museum of Imaging Technology with regard to mark the King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Fifth Cycle Birthday Anniversary and the Rajamangalapisek celebrations. In addition, the formation expected to honour 153 years of photography. The museum was successfully launched with the royal grace of Princess Galyani Vadhana, who provided sponsorship to the Museum of Imaging Technology.
Chulalongkorn University started the construction of Museum of Imaging Technology within the area of Faculty of Science in 1988. The museum was completed in July 1990.
The museum features the evolution of camera and photography from earliest days until the present. Visitor will enjoy viewing electronic camera, video, contemporary photography, the nature of light and tone as the basic elements of photography, 3D simulation, hologram, multivision slideshow, art and culture films, as well as photography for enthusiasts. In addition, there are exhibitions on the evolution and technological advancement of printing and printing materials with the aim to provide opportunities for new generations and photography enthusiasts to experience scientific process of photography, video and printing at the early ages in order to encourage and promote learning environments for young people and those who are keen to learn about photography, video and printing so that they can study the right science that will help improve their visual technique and technological art. Further, Museum of Imaging Technology also maintains and conserves cameras and meaningful photos as the nation’s precious assets. Moreover, the museum serves as the centre of technology and cultural exchanges.
Above all, Museum of Imaging Technology acts as a representative or symbol of collaboration between humankind. This is because the museum is the fruit of endeavours among related departments that took years to achieve. Cooperation came in the form of donation of priceless items from leading manufacturers of negative films and camera, organisations and individuals from Thailand and several countries.
