After the restoration of Phra Chulachomklao Fort and the construction of King Rama V Monument were completed, a large number of visitors had poured in to tour the park and to worship the monument. The Royal Thai Navy continued to improve the area around the Phra Chulachomklao Fort and hastened the restoration of cannons. A part of areas was dedicated to the exhibition on the evolution of the Royal Thai Navy in terms of defense. Specialists in landscape, history and tourism were invited to determine the concept of bringing ancient armaments to display in the form of museum - outdoor weapons, at the front of the King Rama V monument. The venue was officially named “King Rama V Fortress Historical Park”.
There are 5 sections as follows:
Section 1 The monument of King Rama V and museum building.
Section 2 Display of 7 cannons, the then most powerful machine gun
Section 3 H.T.M.S. Maeklong Thai Warship Museum, the outdoor museum established to mark the 50th Anniversary of King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s Accession to the Throne in 1996, which is one in seven projects of Thai warship museum established on the spaces within warships of the Royal Thai Navy.
Visitors will view the engine control room, which is the most important room, along with the most beautifully decorated room like the commissioned officer lobby. There are information on historical events, names of the past captains, army classroom, as well as the background and milestones of Maeklong Warship.
Section 4 The outdoor weapon park features the content and arrangement of armaments, as well as other elements relevant to the history of Thai navy to reflect the evolution of the Royal Thai Navy in battling against the enemies, ranging from the past until the role it has played in protecting national interest in the present. Artifacts include guns and weapons used in the eras of King Rama V and King Rama VI. Historical events, especially those related to the H.T.M.S. Pra Ruang and the endeavours of King Rama VI in the arrangement of this ship, were highlighted. Additionally, there are other armaments from the two reigns, guns and weapons used in significant incidents, including the World War I, the Battle of Koh Chang and the World War II. Each weapon was well provided with technical details and historical information.
There are guns and weapons used by the Royal Thai Navy after the World War II until the present day, side by side with the exhibition of armaments used to fight communist terrorists in certain battles, including those used by the riverine patrols along the Mekong River in Don Daeng incident.
Moreover, there are exhibitions on important sites and elements that reflect the role of the Royal Thai Navy in time of peace and the coastal protection for national interest.
