Information
Phu Phrabat Historical Park represents the civilisation of humankind and the transformation of geography in which most were the results of the erosion and weathering against sandstones through centuries. Stones of peculiar shapes are widely seen, as well as a number of evidences that reflect the way of life of pre-historic people.
Phra Buddha Bat Bua Bok is another interesting site located on the left of the junction before the historical park entrance. Built during 1920-1934, “bua bok” is the name of a forest plant species that has head and leaf that resemble those of lotus. Local people call it “pak nhok”. In the past, there were supposedly plenty of bua boks around the site where Buddha’s footprint was discovered. Therefore, the Buddha’s footprint here was named “Phra Buddha Bat Bua Bok”. On the other hand, “bua bok” might be originated from a domestic word of “bo bok”, which means “not arid”. The shape of Buddha’s footprint is similar to a shallow basin with 60-centimetre depth on the 1.93 metre long, and 90 centimetre wide rock. Previously, a mondop was built to protect the Buddha’s footprint. Later in 1922, a well-respected venerable monk had guided the removal of mondop and the construction of chedi. A replica Buddha’s footprint was also built on top of the original one. The chedi, whereby the relics of Buddha were preserved, resembles the rectangular Phra That Phanom. Every year, there is a holy footprint festival that worships Phra Buddha Bat Bua Bok on the 13th-15th day of the waxing moon on the 3rd lunar month.
