After the restoration and renovation of Khuru Sapha Print Shop building (Sangwet Witsayaram Temple Printing School) which used to be Thailand’s first printing school commanded by the Treasury Department, the former printing venue was turned into a modern museum best known for its interesting adaptation of exhibition items and historical tales into the portrayal of Bang Lamphu community’s traditional lifestyle.
Housed in 2 buildings, the exhibition is divided into 2 zones as:
L-Shape Cement Building: Exhibition zones are housed in this building. On the first floor, it consists of Ake Borom Aong Rachinee (The Glorious Queen): This zone honours Her Majesty the Queen’s graciousness. Pom Ket Khan Haeng Krung Rattanakosin (Forts of Rattanakosin): This part tells the history of Rattanakosin, the building of the capital wall along with the stories of the canals bordering the city and the main canals which generated the birth of commerce areas.Pratoo Koo Withee (The Gates): This section presents the history of the names and positions of every city gate as well as the stories of all the 14 ancient forts around Rattanakosin Island.
The exhibition on the second floor meanwhile displays the background and roles of the Treasury Department. Furthermore, model of the coin manufacturing process as well as the Department’s responsibility in taking care of the Government’s properties are shown here.
Wooden Building: The building’s second floor is composed of 4 exhibition zones as follows:
Si San Banglamphu (The Colors of Banglamphu): This section tells the history of this multi-racial community dated back to the early Rattanakosin days as well as its specialties, for example, where to hunt for delicious food, parks for Bangkok urbanites and nightlife. The room “Bor Sae Jak Rim Khlong” (Evidence from the Riverside) meanwhile projects a movie with images appearing on the water surface imitating Banglamphu Canal to present the co-existence of people from different races such as native Thais and those from Mon, Laos and Cambodia along with the Muslims from the three southern border provinces and Chinese people.
Pra Nakhon Center (Center of the Capital): This section portrays the life of the people of Banglamphu in early days, with famous venues like Bootsayapan Cinema, Hom Huan Thai Musical Folk Drama Theatre, Tor Ngek Chaun Department Store and Thirteen Store-Street as well as traditional shops in Banglamphu area.
Yam Trok Bok Ruang Gao (Alley Walks for the Old Days): This section presents the stories of Banglamphu’s communities and little alleys that may seem unknown to others. Stories of the embroidery on Khon costume in Khian Niwat Alley and Kai Jae Alley along with the presentation of the Thai classical music master at Duriyapraneat House in Sangwet Witsayaram Temple community are also narrated here alongside the community’s specialties such as nielloware, gold-leaf making and banana-stalk carving art.
Tin Khon Dee Sri Banglamphu (Good People of Banglamphu): This section displays the stories of famous people contributing good deeds to the society. The model of cork tree with part of it taken from “Lamphu Ton Soodtai” (The Last Cork Tree) is shown alongside the “Khum Sap Banglamphu” (Treasure of Banglamphu) that visitors can solve the puzzle only with “Paen Ti” (The Map).
On the lower level, the exhibition “Sangwet Witsayaram Temple Printing School” narrates the history of printing while another section houses “Banglamphu Community Library” with collection of rare books and the highest volume of the history of Banglamphu.
