Information
Prehistoric Museum was built on December 28, 1999. The beginning of the museum can be dated back to 1973, when villagers found a number pottery during a well digging, but no one realized those potteries significance at the time. Later in 1997, a large number of pottery fragments were excavated during a cassava plantation preparation where villagers had to dig up the ground about 1 meter deep. Phra Acharn Thongchai Chatapayayo, the then abbot of Wat Pa Phra Sabai Temple, had asked the villagers to bring the excavated pottery fragments to the temple and established the Prehistoric Museum as the source for these ancient objects. The museum is open to general public to study. Exhibitions include ancient human skeletal and pottery fragments. Most of the pottery fragments are grayish black with no glazing. Their shape were similar to Ban Chiang's pottery but there were no color pattern, only rope pattern and cutting pattern made by pressing rope into the clay and cutting into the clay with sharp edges respectively. These excavated potteries are from prehistoric period and over 3,000 year-old. The valuable pieces in good condition are showcased in glass cabinets while fragments are gathered on metal table in corners of rooms. Antiques on display include a round stone used as smasher and whetstone, color stones necklace, stone bracelet, metal tools such as dagger, spear, small bells, bronze ring, bronze necklace, earrings, terracotta bullets, terracotta spindle whorl, terracotta bell, terracotta container, unglazed earthen pot, coconut-shell shaped and Phan-tray shaped terracotta wares, and black terracotta wares with base.
